Marie Cook [Ruoss], KHS 1951

Marie C. Ruoss, 77, of West Chester, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.

She was the wife of George G. Ruoss, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.

Born in Chadds Ford, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Bessie Cole Cook.

She graduated from Kennett Square High School and lived in the West Chester area most of her life.

She worked for the County of Chester for 23 years.

She volunteered at Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation for many years and also at the Spring City Veterans Administration Home.

Marie was previously a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. She was an auxiliary member of both the Ulysses, PA American Legion Post and the Disabled American Veterans’ chapter in West Chester.

She enjoyed bowling, crafts and reading.

In addition to her husband, Marie is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Marie Crawford and her husband, Russ, of Clayton, N.J., and their children, John and Tracey Crawford; and Gail Elaine Anderson and her son, George Tyler Anderson “Bubs,” a beloved grandson to his Nanny. Also surviving are three sisters, Mabel Romanowski, Virginia Robinson and Mary Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Jane Wylie, Grace Slider and Jesse Cook.

An evening viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Founds Funeral Home Inc., 229 S. High St., West Chester, 610-696-0134.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at Founds Funeral Home Inc., where friends may also call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Interment will be in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery.
